Arsenal warned to expect competition for Cahill

England’s Gary Cahill is still on Arsenal’s radar - but his Bolton boss Owen Coyle has warned the Gunners they are not the only club looking at his star centre-half.

Cahill was the subject of a failed bid by Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger in the summer transfer window and the Frenchman, whose existing backline has struggled in the early weeks of the new season, has admitted he is a fan of the player.

However, Coyle, whose club also rejected interest from Tottenham, hinted there will be more bidders in the market when business re-opens in the New Year, when Chelsea are expected to join the auction.

The Scot is sure Cahill to be the focus for more offers and said: “Whatever happens in January, happens. I have no problem with that. I think there will be more than Arsenal in for him.

“Arsene likes him as a player, he has been up front about it, but he is one of a number of admirers. There is nothing wrong with that, Gary is a top player.”

The Cahill affair caused tension and angry words between Bolton and Arsenal, who meet at the Emirates on Saturday, but Coyle is happy he still has one of his best players on board.
